Our Helping Handful

Like a salad, our team is made whole by the sum of its parts. To honor the backgrounds and values of the folks at Salad HQ, every human we hire adds a new charitable organization to the Salad Storefront. We welcome the inclusion of their values into our helping handful, and we invite our Chefs to join us in supporting charitable organizations around the globe.

Every year, Salad Chefs make thousands of individual contributions to charities handpicked by Salad employees both past and present. It's our way of celebrating everyone who has helped us along the way. Our community also guides us in choosing new causes to ensure that the Salad Kitchen will always nourish the world we share. Read on for descriptions of all the charities we currently support.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a non-partisan organization founded in 1920 to defend and preserve civil liberties guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Through legislation, litigation, and community projects, the ACLU has won landmark cases that support free speech, advocate religious tolerance, and combat discrimination.

The ACLU's record of fighting oppression and bigotry against communities, especially those that are marginalized, is very important to me because of my own background of growing up in the US with parents who are immigrants.

Breast Cancer Action

Breast Cancer Action

Breast Cancer Action takes an activist approach to combating breast cancer. Through systemic intervention, the watchdog organization seeks to create a world where no community bears a disproportionate burden of diagnosis or death due to underlying social injustices.

I choose to support Breast Cancer Action because they address breast cancer as a public health crisis. They work to hold agencies accountable for lowering health standards and spreading misinformation, they shed light on empty "awareness" campaigns that effect no change on breast cancer rates, and they refuse donations from the "Cancer Industry" (companies wishing to donate when their own products are known to cause cancer). Think before you pink!
